Intervertebral Disc Protrusions and Extrusions

- Course Description: This course reviews large herniated intervertebral discs, protrusions, and extrusions. We will review prevalence and epidemiology, imaging findings, IVD resorption, spinal stenosis, chiropractic care, and indications and complications of surgical interventions.
- Hourly Breakdown:
- Hour 1 – Review of the cases, prevalence, and epidemiology of IVD protrusions/extrusions, imaging indications, and nomenclature.
- Hour 2 – Review of IVD resorption and predictive clinical factors, dynamic spinal stenosis, the effect of ADLs, myelopathy and cauda equina syndrome.
- Hour 3 – Indications and contraindications of chiropractic care, surgical indications/complications, and risk management discussion.

- Attendees will better understand concepts related to IVD protrusions/extrusions.
- Attendees will gain insight into the epidemiology and asymptomatic/symptomatic prevalence.
- Attendees will be able to discuss and describe the mechanisms of disc resorption and evidence-based recommendations.

Dr. James Demetrious is a nationally distinguished, board-certified chiropractic orthopedist. He teaches post-graduate coursework through his company PostGradDC. He is a proud member of the NCMIC Speakers’ Bureau and teaches throughout the United States. Dr. Demetrious has published peer-reviewed papers related to advanced differential diagnosis. Notably, he published the very first paper to ever associate fluoroquinolone medications as a causative risk factor of Cervical Artery Dissection. He has continually cared for patients since 1986.
