  • Course Description:
      • The craniocervical junction (CCJ) is highly relevant to chiropractors and other clinicians who treat headaches and neck pain. In the last twenty years, great advances have been made in its underlying anatomy. In this GR presentation, key anatomical findings from the peer-reviewed literature will be reviewed, along with a representative case that illustrates how deep knowledge of this region can inform clinical decision-making.
  • Hourly Breakdown:
    • Hour 1 – A focused discussion will be provided related to boundaries, osteology, angiology, and neurology of the craniocervical junction (CCJ).
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Describe the boundaries, osteology, angiology, and neurology of the craniocervical junction (CCJ).
    • Describe the blood supply to the suboccipital muscles with emphasis on the suboccipital artery of Salmon.
    • Describe the transverse occipital ligament and its functional role.
    • Apply knowledge of the CCJ to real-world clinical cases, and explain how such knowledge can drive decisions in clinical practice.

Instructor: Anthony D’Antoni, MS, DC, PhD

Dr. D’Antoni is a clinician-scientist with over 25 years of experience in medical education. He holds a MS degree from Wagner College, a DC degree from the National University of Health Sciences, and a PhD from Seton Hall University. He is licensed to practice chiropractic in NY and NJ, and currently practices in NJ. Dr. D’Antoni is the President Elect (2023-2025) of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists and is deeply committed to the development of the field of evidence-based anatomy (EBA). Dr. D’Antoni holds academic appointments in the Department of Radiology, Division of Anatomy at Weill Cornell Medicine and the Department of Neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers, edited several textbooks, and was editor of the ankle and foot chapter of the 41st and 42nd editions of Gray’s Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice. Dr. D’Antoni is founder and president of Brainiac Test Prep (brainiactestprep.com), a company dedicated to helping undergraduate students prepare for the MCAT and apply to medical school. The company also provides board reviews for nursing students (NCLEX) and PA students (PANCE).


Moderator: James Demetrious, DC, DABCO

Dr. James Demetrious is a nationally distinguished, board certified chiropractic orthopedist. He is a clinician, educator, author, and editor. Dr. Demetrious teaches post-graduate coursework on behalf of Northeast College of Health Sciences. He is a member of the NCMIC Speakers’ Bureau and teaches post-graduate coursework throughout the United States. He has published peer-reviewed journal papers related to advanced differential diagnosis. He serves as an editorial reviewer on behalf of the journals: Spine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Clinical Anatomy. Dr. Demetrious has continually cared for patients since 1986.
