Course Description:
- This one-hour postgraduate lecture provides a focused, clinically practical approach to the evaluation of knee pain and dysfunction. Emphasis is placed on functional anatomy, MRI anatomy, common mechanisms of injury, and appropriate imaging utilization in acute trauma and chronic knee conditions. Participants will integrate orthopedic examination findings with imaging interpretation and instructive case reports to improve diagnostic accuracy, recognize not-to-miss pathology, and guide appropriate conservative care or referral.
Hourly Breakdown:
- Hour 1:
- Functional and applied anatomy of the knee
- MRI anatomy and common imaging pitfalls
- Mechanisms of injury and prevalence of common knee disorders
- Orthopedic examination principles, including test sensitivity and specificity
- Imaging strategies for acute knee trauma and chronic knee pain
- Not-to-miss diagnoses (ligament disruption, occult fracture, infection, neoplasm)
- Differential diagnosis of knee pain
- Instructive case reports highlighting diagnostic reasoning and referral thresholds
