Course Description:

  • This one-hour postgraduate lecture provides a focused, clinically practical approach to the evaluation of elbow pain and dysfunction. Emphasis is placed on functional anatomy, common injury mechanisms, orthopedic examination techniques, and the appropriate use of imaging in both acute and chronic elbow conditions. Participants will learn to integrate physical examination findings with imaging and case-based reasoning to improve diagnostic accuracy, identify red flags, and guide conservative care versus referral decisions.

Hourly Breakdown:

  • Hour 1:
    • Functional anatomy and biomechanics of the elbow
    • Common mechanisms of injury and clinical presentations
    • Orthopedic examination principles, including test sensitivity and specificity
    • Imaging considerations for acute and chronic elbow pain
    • Key differential diagnoses: epicondylitis, ligament injury, bursitis, nerve entrapment, and occult fracture
    • Case-based clinical pearls and referral indicators

  • Perform an evidence-informed orthopedic examination of the elbow to evaluate common pain syndromes.
  • Correlate examination findings with imaging to refine differential diagnoses.
