International Confirmation of Chiropractic Efficacy

An international cohort of researchers assessed and confirmed evidence-based rehabilitation interventions for patients with nonspecific lower back pain with and without radiculopathy. [1]

It was their objective to systematically review clinical practice guidelines and synthesize high quality recommendations to inform the development of a World Health Organization package of interventions for rehabilitation.

They reviewed 2813 articles published between 2009 and 2019.

Consensus Recommendations

Several high quality recommendations were made:

  • For utilization:
    • Chiropractic spinal manipulation
    • Rehabilitation and education
  • Against utilization:
    • Passive modalities such as ultrasound PENS, TENS and interferential therapy
    • Pharmacologic therapies
    • Pain management

Key Point

Once again, chiropractic care is confirmed by high-quality research as a most valuable modality for the treatment of non-specific lower back and radiculopathy pain.

A Major Paradigm Shift is Necessary

All patients with nonspecific lower back pain and neuromusculoskeletal conditions should be initially seen by doctors of chiropractic. To alleviate suffering and reduce societal cost, medical providers and insurers must refer their patients for chiropractic care as their patients’ initial point of contact.
