Course Description:

  • This lecture presents a comprehensive, evidence-informed overview of the treatment of patients with intervertebral disc (IVD) herniation. Dr. James Demetrious will discuss new research related to chiropractic spinal manipulation and intervertebral disc herniation. Dr. David Graber integrates IVD nomenclature, evidence-based conservative management, biomechanics, forces and thresholds, technique, and clinical cautions in case studies with practical technique demonstration.

Hourly Breakdown:

  • Hour 1 – Current research, IVD nomenclature, evidence-based conservative management, biomechanics, forces and thresholds, technique and clinical cautions, in case studies with practical technique demonstration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the classifications and mechanisms of intervertebral disc herniation and resorption.
  • Differentiate between appropriate and contraindicated chiropractic techniques in the context of disc pathology.
  • Apply evidence-based management strategies for patients with lumbar and cervical disc herniation.
  • Select and modify manual techniques based on disc morphology, patient tolerance, and neurological presentation.

Instructor: David Graber, DC, DACBSP

Dr. David Graber is a nationally known presenter who has developed and taught over 30 courses on spinal and extremity adjusting techniques, low tech rehabilitation, the science of manipulation and manual care, contextual healing, and other topics. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians, and serves on the board of directors of the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors (ANJC). He was the 2012 ANJC Chiropractor of the Year, and is in full-time practice in Parsippany, New Jersey.


Moderator: James Demetrious, DC, DABCO

Dr. James Demetrious is a nationally distinguished, board certified chiropractic orthopedist. He is a clinician, educator, author, and editor. Dr. Demetrious teaches post-graduate coursework on behalf of Northeast College of Health Sciences. He is a member of the NCMIC Speakers’ Bureau and teaches post-graduate coursework throughout the United States. He has published peer-reviewed journal papers related to advanced differential diagnosis. He serves as an editorial reviewer on behalf of the journals: Spine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Clinical Anatomy. Dr. Demetrious has continually cared for patients since 1986.
